‘Homeland’ Set for Summer Shoot in South Africa

    30 April 2014

Showtime and Fox 21 announced Friday that award-winning drama series “Homeland” is set to begin production in Cape Town, South Africa.

Production will begin in mid-June and continue through November on the popular drama centered around bipolar CIA agent Carrie Mathison, played by Claire Danes.

“We’ve been so lucky to work with one of the best crews in the business for the last three seasons in Charlotte,” “Homeland” showrunner and exec producer Alex Gansa said in a statement. “We knew going into season four that we would need to move the production overseas to tell the story of Carrie returning to the Middle East as chief of station.  We are thrilled to have found a new home in Cape Town and look forward to getting season four production off the ground.”

The show’s fourth season, set to premiere this fall, finds Carrie back on the front lines in the war on terror as she is assigned to one of the most volatile and dangerous CIA stations in the Middle East.

In addition to stars Danes and Mandy Patinkin, Rupert Friend will also return for season four, along with Nazanin Boniadi, who was recently promoted to a series regular.

New York Times votes Cape Town Number One City to visit 2014

    22 January 2014

    $ – ZAR10.8 ||  € – ZAR – 14.8 || £ – 17.7

These are today’s crazy exchange rates ensuring 20 to 24% more value to production budgets this season. Combine that with the heady news that the New York Times and the UK Guardian just voted Cape Town THE number one place to visit (out of 52) and there can’t be many reasons to keep you away.  Cape Town is a hotspot of international productions this month but amazingly, thanks to Manni, Moonlighting accommodation guru, we have managed to get rooms for our client teams under really demanding circumstances.  NOTE: If you want to book at restaurants The Test Kitchen or Pot Luck Club, I suggest you get us to book in the minute you think you might be coming.  http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2014/01/10/travel/2014-places-to-go.html?_r=0

South Africa Picks ‘Four Corners’ for Oscar

    21 September 2013

    Variety – 20 September 2013

South Africa has selected child-gang thriller “Four Corners” as its contender for the foreign-language Academy Award race.

Directed by Ian Gabriel, “Four Corners” revolves around a 13-year-old chess whiz drawn into the Cape Town’s well-known child-gang culture. Touted as the first film to delve into the 100-year-old war between South Africa’s so-called Number gangs, the 26 and the 28, it blends the Sabela, Tsotsi-taal and Cape Afrikaans dialects and mixes established talents with non-actors and first-time thesps from schools and communities across the Cape Flats.

“Four Corners” is South African prison slang for the four corners of a prison cell.

Pic is produced by Genevieve Hofmeyr (Moonlighting Films) and Cindy Gabriel (Giant Films), and partly funded by the National Film & Video Foundation South Africa, the Berlinale Co-Production Market and New York’s IFP No Borders.

Ian Gabriel’s previous work “Forgiveness,” influenced by the post-apartheid Truth and Reconciliation Commission hearings, screened at the Locarno fest in 2004.

The last date to submit entries for the foreign-language Academy Awards is Oct. 1. Nominations will be announced Jan. 16 and the ceremony will be held March 2 at the Dolby Theater.

    Filming at the Aquarium

    8 January 2013

More of this one to come later. We can just say that we filmed at the Aquarium early December; that the resident sharks were most accommodating; that the turtle was very inquisitive; and we ended up filming sunset at Llandudno Beach – doesn’t get much better than that!

    The Dinosaur Project

    25 July 2012

New movie The Dinosaur Project, shot with Moonlighting Films and set to be released in UK cinemas August 10th, features previously unseen footage from the ill-fated, eponymous 2011 expedition to the Congo in search of the Mokele Mbembe. Discover a world lost for millions of years.
Studiocanal are delighted to finally bring this astonishing story of the missing Congo expedition to UK audiences, and the findings of the Cryptozoological Society to audiences around the world. The film features stunning recovered footage of creatures thought to be extinct for 65 million years. As the search for the missing crew continues, questions remain about the source of the missing footage and the manner in which it was discovered. Producer Nick Hill said in a statement, “It has been incredible to have the original source material to work with, and we have great respect and admiration for the work of the Cryptozoological Society and are keen to support them in their search. The movie raises important questions about species which conventional science tells us have long since become extinct, and we hope it will help raise awareness of the search to locate the missing persons and the BCZS’s ongoing work in the Congo. http://uk.ign.com/articles/2012/07/11/the-dinosaur-project-trailer
